Empower Yourself and Make Your Health A Priority!
Men’s Health Month is recognized in June, and Pace wants you to be empowered to make your health a priority. We desire that every individual lives a healthy and happy life. Did you know on average in the United States that men are expected to live six years less than women? Many diseases disproportionately affect men, such as heart disease, but may be preventable. We are encouraging men to make mental and physical health a priority.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are steps one can take to improve their physical and mental health.
· Schedule and attend regular check-ups, including a yearly wellness examination. Speak with your provider regarding any concerns you have.
· Eat a healthy balanced diet. Limit packaged and processed foods. Eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, fiber-rich foods, and lean proteins.
· Get moving. Be active three to five (3-5) days per week for 20-30 minutes.
· Break unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and recreational or habitual drug use.
· Protect your skin. Use SPF 30 or greater sunscreen daily, limit outside activities (if possible) during the sun’s peak hours and wear a hat and sunglasses.
· Prioritize your mental health and learn how to cope with stress. Self-care and stress management look different for everyone.
· Connect with others and do activities that make you happy.
· Get enough sleep. Adults need 6-8 hours of consecutive hours of sleep a night.
Dr. Michelle Pitcher, Nurse Practitioner stated, “Health Connection is offering NO COST preventative (wellness) examinations in June. We will review your personal history and family medical history, perform a physical examination including some screening testing, and discuss your health goals.”
Plan for your examination in 2023 by contacting Health Connection. There may be no co-pay, deductible, or out-of-pocket cost after the month of June.
